LoI signed during study tour of Mayor and Councillors of MC Chandigarh to Nagpur
Chandigarh, September 15:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today signed an Letter of Intent with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) to work together towards environmental protection, pollution prevention and control through need based research, knowledge dissemination, training and capacity building in areas like Water & Waste Water treatment, Sewage, Solid Waste Management, Air pollution control etc.
Joint Commissioner Sh Gurinder Sodhi signed the LoI with Director NEERI, Dr Vaidya, in the presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Mayor, Chandigarh  at Nagpur today. The Mayor and the 21 councilors were on Study tour to Nagpur and visited NEERI today.
The LoI encourages, facilitates, collaborates and partners  promotion and development of best practices with an aim to adopt the concept of 4R-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover of resources, Capacity building (skill development) of the stakeholders and sharing of the best environmental management practices. The activities undertaken in the areas of mutual interest shall be taken in the project mode basis.
The LOI is a statement of mutual understanding of proposed collaboration between the two parties. Mayor Sarbjit Kaur said that MC Chandigarh and the entire city shall benefit immensely from the the MoU as NEERI is the pioneer in the country in the fields of Solid Waste Management, Waste Water Management and Water Body Rejuvenation. 
The MCC team led by the Mayor also visited water treatment plant at Nagpur today.
