Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh celebrates Swachhta Pakhwada. The 
fifteen days campaign from September 01- September 15, 2022 is being conducted as a part of 
the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to give impetus to the Swachhta drive, promote cleanliness, 
hygiene and spread awareness about environment. It is also in consonance with the best 
practice of Environmental Sustainability promoted by the College. 
 A virtual lecture on Role of Shramdaan (Voluntary Contribution) in Swachhta Campaign Was 
organised on Sept 13, 2022. Mr Samarth Sharma, Consultant MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, 
Government of India was the resource person. Mr Samarth Sharma emphasized upon the role 
of Shramdaan. He elucidated that the role played by educational institutions and students in 
ushering in a Clean India has been recognized by the government. He stressed that students 
must be encouraged to dedicatedly participate in the activities related to Swachhta Action Plan. 
A collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the college for several competitions was 
suggested.
Students have been voluntarily participating in the eco-friendly practice of Zero Litter Hour 
observed everyday to keep the College Campus litter free creating mass awareness regarding 
cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where 
the students’ queries were thoroughly answered by the resource person.
An interactive lecture on Rain Water Harvesting and Water Management was organised on Sept 
14, 2022. Mr Aditya Sharma, Hydrometeorologist, Central Ground Water Board, North Western 
Region, Chandigarh, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt of India was the resource person. He 
sensitised students about the judicial use of water focusing on the depleting water resources in 
the contemporary scenarios. Students were enlightened about how to protect and conserve 
natural sources of water. He advised that the adoption of Rain Water Harvesting and 
Recharging Ground Water is one of the best measures for conserving water globally. The 
session was engaging as student volunteers were involved in the demonstration of methods 
pertaining to recharging of groundwater. He also encouraged students to pursue water 
management training courses. 
Dr Navjot Kaur, Principal encouraged the students to maintain cleanliness, use water judiciously 
and ensure minimum wastage of water both on Campus and in their external environments. She 
thanked the resource persons for sharing their insights and lauded the Dharat Suhavi 
Environment Society, Solid Waste Management Committee and SAP, MGNCRE for organising 
these events.
