SGGSC 26 Organises a Unique Book and Paper Conservation Workshop
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector-26, Chandigarh organised a Workshop on Book and Paper Conservation “Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji De Rubaru: Likhai Toh Prakash Tak”.
Principal Dr Navjot Kaur welcomed the Keynote Speaker Bhai Surjit Singh, Book and Paper Conservator, Oxford University, UK and his team from Pothi Seva Association, who are doing a praiseworthy work of preserving Gurmukhi Pothis and Books. Present at the occasion were Guests of Honour, S Gurdev Singh Brar (IAS retd, President, Sikh Educational Society and Col (retd) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, Sikh Educational Society.
The Workshop included a screening of a Documentary on the intricate process of binding of the Holy Book followed by a Special Lecture by the Resource Person. He provided a deep insight into the historical significance and meticulous craftsmanship of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and lent a unique perspective to the film, shedding light on the conservation and preservation of the Holy Book.
The event commemorated the first Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and upheld the Best Practice of Heritage and Cultural Preservation and the Institutional Distinctiveness of the College.
The event concluded with a question-answer session. S Gurdev Singh Brar along with the Principal awarded Certificates to students, who successfully completed the 30 Hour Value-Added Course on Gurmat Sangeet, Gurbani Santheya and Gakta conducted by the College for the session 2022-23. The College is the only institute in the tri city that offers Comparative Study of Religion as an elective subject under the Panjab University.
The Principal commended the efforts of the Centre for Religious and Cultural Studies and Gurmat Vichar Sabha of the College for organising the event.
